Court directs state govt to clear PDS Bills or face consequences

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: The Court of Civil Judge Senior Division, Capital Complex in a judgment pertaining to PDS case, (Money Execution Case No. 6/2013) has directed the amount payable to M/s Shahil Enterprise with Likha Maj as proprietor and others be cleared or face consequences in the form of arrest warrants against top officials of the state govt.

The Court directed the Arunachal Pradesh's Chief Secretary, Secretary and the Director of Food and Civil Supply Department to personally appear before the Court on August 9 after the govt failed to deposit with the Court, the money payable to Likha Maj and others. The Court said that decreetal should be deposited while appearing before the Court.

In default to appear personally, the order for arrest warrant will be issued against the Judgment debtors (Chief Secretary of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, the Secretary, Food and Civil Supply and the Director, Food and Civil) as provided under Order 21 Rule 37 of the Civil Procedure Code, read a Court order of Aug 3.

The Court verdict came after state counsel sought more time for payment as well making Food Corporation of India as necessary party in the money execution proceeding.

The state govt owes Rs 269, 50, 22, 938 (calculated up to 31-01-2016) to the PDS contractor of which one third was paid by govt. The Court papers reveal that Cabinet headed by the former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul paid one third of the decreetal money before the court.

So far the respective state governments has been able to dodge full payment by going to Court several times.

While rejecting the appeal of the state Counsel, the court said that "after going through the entire proceedings and the conducts… it has become crystal clear the judgment debtors are lingering the proceeding, in the present execution by filing frivolous and baseless applications. On each and every date, the Judgment debtors are filing one after another baseless application for delaying the present execution proceeding…the Judgment debtors has left no stone unturned and has filed every possible application before the High Court, the Supreme Court and the Executing Court and has delayed the proceeding of the present executing which is relating to the decree passed in the year 2007.

In compliance with Supreme Court verdict, on March 15, the court had directed the CS, Secretary and Director Civil Supplies to appear personally before Civil Judge's court and deposit an amount of Rs. 269,50,22,938/- payable to PDS contractor. The govt later went to the Guwahati High Court, and on 23-03-2016, the Court granted seven weeks for payment of the decreetal money owed to the contractor.

On 11-05-2016, decree holder filed another application seeking payment of entire amount from the govt. Again the court passed an order directing the judgment debtors for payment of the entire remaining decreetal amount.

By June 6, the Court again passed an order for appearance of the Chief Secretary or the Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies and for filing Written memo regarding payment of the decreetal amount, since the govt could not pay the entire decreetal amount of money within seven weeks.

The state govt thereafter had filed another application on June 13 before the High Court ( I.A. No. 03(AP)/2016 in CRP 06(AP)/16) wherein the High Court granted another six weeks to the state govt. The Court was informed that the govt had taken the steps for payment of the balance decreetal amount and administrative approval was accorded but the government authority was busy with the change of the political scenario and for formation of the new government.

Another application was filed on 25-07-2016 by the govt before the HC but the Court directed them to file application before the Civl Court instead.

The State counsel said that due to non reimbursement by the Food Corporation of India against the bill paid by the State to the decree holders as well as to some other contractors, the department is facing acute financial crunch.

Counsel V. Laxminarayan and John Likha appearing for Likha Maj and others said that petition filed by the govt "for stay of execution proceeding and for grant of one month time is not maintainable and gross abuse of the process of court." They informed the Court that enough time was given to the govt to clear the debts.

If the govt is forced to pay, Congress MLA Likha Saaya and Minister Takam Tagar are other likely beneficiaries from PDS.

Landslide washes away 8 residential buildings in Jang

TAWANG, Aug 6: There was no respite from monsoon fury in Tawang as eight residential buildings in Barbara village under Jang circle were washed away by massive landslide caused by torrential rain.

The local administration has evacuated the people of the entire village to Jang as a precautionary measure to avoid loss of life.

As per preliminary assessment, all the household properties and other belongings of the dwellers of the village were completely damaged. One Maruti car and motorcycle were also damaged while machineries and other equipments of M/s Alliance Trading used for construction of Thingbu road have also been washed away.

Though there was no report of loss of human life three persons have reportedly suffered minor injuries.

The formation of Marmang Thingbu road at Sumrang village, two culverts and a suspension bridge have been washed away snapping road communication to Thingbu circle.

The ADC Jang has started rescue operation early in the morning with the help of ITBP, SSB, police personnel and local people.

Immediate necessary relief materials, including monetary assistance have been provided to the affected people.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed shock and concern over landslide near Jang and another incident of fire in Kala Bazar at Hayuliang, where 14 shops have been completely gutted.

Two persons sustained injuries in the Hayuliang fire mishap. They have been provided immediate medical attention.

The CM has directed the concern district administrations to provide immediate relief to the victims of both landslide and fire incidents and prayed for early recovery of the injured persons.

Pema allocates portfolios to cabinet ministers

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: Chief Minister Pema Khandu has allocated portfolios to his council of ministers on Saturday.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has been given the charge of Finance along with Planning and PWD, while Tanga Byaling got the Rural Development and Panchayat.

Rajesh Tacho was allocated the Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development and Fisheries departments.

Honchun Ngandam was given the portfolio of Education and Libraries, while Wangki Lowang has been allocated the DoTCL, Agriculture, Trade and Commerce and Kamlung Mossang was given the charge of WRD, Geology and Mines.

Former Assembly Speaker Nabam Rebia got the UD, Town Planning, Housing, ULB, Law and Justice. Tapang Taloh was given the charge of Industries, Textiles and Handicraft, Cooperation, while Kumar Waii has been given the portfolio of RWD, Labour and Employment.

Takam Pario was allocated PHED, Disaster Management, while Jomde Kena got the portfolio of Transport, Supply & Transport, Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs.

The departments which were not allocated to the Deputy CM and any other cabinet ministers will remain with the chief minister, according to an official release.

Meanwhile, Governor Tathagata Roy has approved the allocation of portfolios to the cabinet ministers, release said.

14 shops gutted in Hayuliang market

HAWAI, Aug 6: At least 14 shops and a house were completely gutted in a devastating fire which broke out at Hayuliang market (Kala Bazar), here Friday around midnight.

Another shop had to be completely demolished in order to control further spread of fire, which reportedly, broke out due to a short circuit. The locals had managed to douse the raging fire around 1.45 AM. Two water tankers of the army had also arrived around 2 AM but they were too late as the fire was already doused.

Though, two persons are said to have sustained injuries there is no report of any loss of lives.

Meanwhile, local legislator Kalikho Pul expressed shock over the fire mishap. Immediately after getting the news of the fire incident, Pul contacted the Anjaw DC & DDMO and Hayuliang ADC and took stock of the situation. He instructed the DC to provide relief assistance to the affected shopkeepers and the owners from the disaster relief fund at the earliest.

APCSOA reiterates demands to implement Bagra Committee recommendations

ITANAAGAR, Aug 6: Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service Officers' Association (APCSOA) reiterated its demand for implementation of the Bagra Committee Report and amendment of Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service Recruitment Rule -2006 as soon as possible.

The Bagra Committee Report, which was submitted during November, 2013 with several recommendations for consideration, has not been implemented in letter and spirit until today, lamented APCSOA in a memorandum submitted to Principal Secretary (Personnel).

The Bagra Committee recommended for consideration to upgrade 5 existing posts of APCS (admin. grade) to APCS (SAG) in the rank of Additional Secretary, 3 posts of APCS (Sr. admin. grade) to APCS (supertime scale) to the rank of Secretary and 2 posts of APCS (Supertime scale) to APCS (Sr. supertime scale) to the rank of Commissioner and Secretary to Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

APCSOA suggested that the 10 posts as proposed to be upgraded should be drawn from the overall strength of APCS (Admin. Grade) posts in the cadre in order to maintain the pyramidical hierarchy of the cadre.

Demanding amendment of Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service Recruitment Rule -2006 and recasting of Cadre Schedule-1, the APCSOA stated that non review of the Recruitment Rule has affected in the posting and placement of cadre officers.

The memorandum further demanded streamlining of APCS Grade posts and re-nomenclature of APCS (Entry Grade) and APCS (Senior Grade).

AAPSU hands over flood donations to Namsai DC

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) President Kamta Lapung on Saturday handed over the amounts collected through donations for the recent flood victims to Namsai Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma in his office chamber on Saturday.

The donation camps were set up under the supervision of AAPSU in Namsai, Tezu, Khonsa, Deomali and other areas with the involvement of members of All Namsai District Student's Union (ANDSU),

All Lohit District Student's Union (ALDSU), All Tai-Khampti Singpho Student's Union (ATKSSU), All Namsai Area Youth Association (ANAYA), All Tirap District Student's Union (ATDSU) and Team CLLANDT.

Later in a meeting held at Namsai under the initiative of AAPSU president Kamta Lapung, the members present in the meeting appreciated the efforts put in by the state govt. under the leadership Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein for constantly supervising the relief and rehabilitation efforts for the flood affected people.

The joint team of AAPSU, ANSDSU, ATKSSU, ACDSU, ALDSU and team CLLANDT also visited the affected areas and the relief camps at New Silatoo and interacted with the affected people. Some food items were distributed to the victims by the visiting team.

DC debars entry of media persons in public meeting

PASIGHAT, Aug 6: East Siang Deputy Commissioner has debarred entry of media persons into a meeting held to discuss regarding irregular power supply in Pasighat area on August four.

The meeting was convened by the district administration and attended by power consumers, including the local MLA, government officials, panchayat leaders, leaders of various local organizations and members of Pasighat Power Welfare Committee (PPWC).

Pasighat EAC Bani Lego, following East Siang Deputy Commissioner's verbal order, forced media persons to leave the office chamber of the DC stating that the meeting was secret and confidential.

The functionaries of PPWC, leaders and other eminent citizens, who attended the meeting, later said that the meeting was not confidential as nothing secret issues related to law and order and national integrity were discussed. It focused mainly on improvement of power supply in the area in presence of Commissioner (Power) and the departmental engineers, they said.

The administrative officials said that the district has a designated officer (DIPRO) to file government related news and they do not require the services of media persons of private or government agencies to cover programme pertaining to district administration.

CM seeks participation of all in making capital city clean

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: Chief Minister Pema Khandu sought every one's whole hearted participation in making the state capital a clean and model city.

Addressing before a mammoth gathering after flagging off the vehicles to be used for door-to- door collection of waste at Banquet Hall here on Saturday, Pema sough cooperation and active participation of people to achieve the objective of making twin capital cities garbage free.

"It is not only the responsibility of the govt. and municipal councils to keep the city clean, but each and every citizen of the state must shoulder equal responsibility to keep their surroundings clean and green," he said.

He also urged the capital dwellers to develop a sense of cleanliness as the state capital reflects the image of the entire state.

He called for organizing massive cleanliness drive in every village and town of the state on the occasion of the Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 next involving elected representatives, panchayat leaders, NGOs, public and students.

The Chief Minister also said to appoint agencies to map the capital city in order to develop it into a model city. Since Itanagar Capital City is already in smart city race, all other issues would be dealt with the smart city plan, he added.

He further revealed that his govt would give full support to the new Municipal Councils of Itanagar and Pasighat which are in nascent stage by empowering them financially.

Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein called for planning a long-term comprehensive strategy for solid waste management by both IMC and PMC.

Mein also called to adopt good environmental habits saying that Solid Waste Management is directly related to environmental protection.

He appealed to the business community to shoulder responsibility to minimise waste through proper disposal of garbage.

Itanagar MLA, Techi Kaso called upon the residents of the capital city to wake up and not to just blame the govt and the IMC for the garbage mess and shoulder the responsibilities together instead.

Chief Secretary Shakuntala Gamlin appealed to all to inculcate the habit of throwing garbage at designated place only and also called to preserve the greeneries in the twin capital city.

IMC Chief Councillor, Kipa Kaku called for developing self-awareness and to start the cleanliness from own house to keep the capital city clean.

On the occasion, Chief Minister along with the Deputy Chief Minister and others flagged off 12 new vehicles, including 3 JCBs, 6 Tippers and 3 Kargo King for door to door collection of solid waste. He also launched the Itanagar Municipal Council website which can be reached at www.imcarunachal.in.

Earlier, Capital Complex DC Sandeep Kumar Singh made a power point presentation on Solid Waste Management in Itanagar Capital Complex.

According to him, the Door to Door collection would cover 1,50,000 population of 20,730 households that comes under 30 wards in urban areas and 2 ZPM Blocks and 5 notified villages in rural areas.

Mason’s training on earthquake resistant building construction

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: The 2nd phase of mason’s training on earthquake resistant construction organized by the Public Works Department (PWD), GoAP under the sponsorship of Department of Disaster Management was held at Nirman Bhawan here on Saturday.

An initiative taken by Chief Engineer (SID&P) PWD, Atop Lego, the programme was conducted for the builders, building constructors, engineers and laborers regarding construction of earthquake resistant buildings.

During the training, the Chief Engineer with the help of a power point presentation explained that earthquake-resistant structures are designed to withstand earthquakes. While no structure can be entirely immune to damage from earthquakes, the goal of earthquake-resistant construction is to erect structures that fare better during seismic activity than their conventional counterparts, he said.

He further explained the detail technical insights of earthquake resistance construction of the building, what measures and steps to be taken and the common mistakes done by the builders while constructing a house or a building.

The Chief Engineer further advised the builders to take extra precautions while constructing schools, office buildings and hospitals. (DIPRO)

MLA Moyong urges people to get benefit from GoI schemes

PASIGHAT, Aug.6: MLA Pasighat (East) Kaling Moyong has urged people to take advantage of the Directorate of Field Publicity’s (DFP) awareness programme. He said that the schemes launched by the present NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are for the rural and poor people as well as for unemployed youths and that they should benefit from it.

Moyong was speaking at a ‘Special Outreach Programme (SOP)’ organized by DFP Pasighat unit in coordination with DFP Tezu unit at Berung village of East Siang district on Friday. More than 300 people including PRI members, GBs, HGBs, Teachers, Students, Youths, Anganwadi workers, ASHAs, Villagers etc. participated in the awareness programme.

Earlier in his address, Director, DFP, Arunachal Pradesh Region Dr H R Keshavamurthy urged the gathering to take full advantage of the schemes, especially targeted for farmers, Poor, Youths & Women.

Speaking as resource person, Extension Officer, Industries department Pasighat M Megu, explained the gathering about Skill India Mission, PMKVY and others schemes being implemented by the Industries department.

Mossang takes stock of flood damage

MIAO, Aug 6: WRD and Geology and Mines Minister Kamlung Mossang on Saturday visited the Kharsang circle to take stock of the damages caused by the recent flood in his constituency.

Accompanied by Kharsang CO R K Rai, EE WRD A K Yadav, AE PWD W Ronrang, ZPC Changlang Jowkhong Singpho and panchayat and public leaders, Mossang inspected the hanging bridge at Namchik Havi which was completely washed away by the flood water. He also inspected the damaged hanging bridge over Mora Kharsang river which connects Jengpothar and Sengmao villages. The minister also took stock of the severe erosion on the right embankment of Namphuk river and the bridge over it which was under repair after being partially damaged in the floods. The minister and his team also visited interior villages on foot to take stock of flood damage.

The EE, WRD Bordumsa Division informed the minister of the devastation caused by the flood in Jengpothar, Namchik Havi, Balinong and Namphuk villages. The minister has asked the Kharsang CO to assess the flood damages at the earliest and forward it to the higher authorities so that relief and rehabilitation efforts could be carried out.

Earlier in the day the minister also paid a visit to the Government Higher Secondary School, Kharsang and met the teachers and students. The teachers and students apprised him about the shortage of subject teachers in the school. He informed that teacher shortage was not confined to certain pockets but a problem prevailing in the whole state. The Minister said that the government will be working to find a solution in order to mitigate the problem. He suggested to go for local arrangements till the availability of teachers. He also visited the classrooms in the new building and was shocked to find that there was filth around. The Minister asked both the teachers and students to shoulder responsibility to keep the school neat and clean and also take care of its infrastructures.

Kundra takes stock of infrastructure development at Pangin

PANGIN, Aug 6: Commissioner of Power and Finance Ashish Kundra on Friday visited Pangin, headquarter of the newly created Siang district. During his visit Kundra inspected the proposed sites of office establishment and residential areas and took stock of infrastructural development.

Later the Commissioner attended an interactive meeting with HoOs in the Siang Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall, wherein DC Rahul Singh presented a detail report of poor state of infrastructure of the district headquarter, Pangin. He informed that due to lack of accommodation and office buildings, officers and staffs are facing difficulties to attend their duties regularly.

"Siang being the youngest district deserves more attention from the government” the DC said as he committed to make it a planned and beautiful, model district. DPR of mini secretariat amounting to 25 Crore has been forwarded to the government and it needs immediate Govt approval so that development can take place at the earliest, Singh added. He also emphasized for creation of work-force adding that more officers and staffs are required to be appointed/recruited for smooth functioning of govt. offices.

After patient hearing finance commissioner Kundra felt that the demand of funds were very genuine and assure to look into it. While emphasizing on judicious use of Govt fund, he asked the people to cooperate with the government departments for proper implementation of projects.

Earlier in the morning, Kundra, accompanied by Siang DC Rahul Singh and engineers of power department on his way to Pangin inspected Rengging Sub-station and Yembung hydel to know the ground reality of uncompleted 132kv Aalo-Pasighat tower line and in all places he was briefed on the progress of the project by the engineers. Interacting with engineers and other staff at work sites, the Commissioner laid stress on implementation of various project works within the scheduled time. DIPRO

Encroachment of Govt. land at Pasighat alleged

PASIGHAT, Aug 6: The local residents of Gumin Nagar under Pasighat urban area, including the members of Gumin Nagar Development & Welfare Society (regd) have reported massive encroachment of government land under the very nose of the district administration and Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC).

The local residents in a written complaint stated that no effective action has been initiated so far by the East Siang administration to free the encroached government land despite repeated pleas.

Gumin Nagar area falling under Ward-12 of PMC is the only well-planned site in the urban area, wherein more than 600 families have been given land allotment for residential purpose.

“We repeatedly moved the East Siang Deputy Commissioner demanding eviction of illegal land occupants at Gumin Nagar area and to protect government land from the grip of encroachers, but no effective action has been initiated from administration’s end. The authority once demolished some temporary structure last month, but it has not touched any permanent structures erected by the encroachers in the government land”, the aggrieved local residents rued.

The local residents submitted a reminder to East Siang DC on August 1 demanding her to take concrete action against the land encroachers at Gumin Nagar. But their pleas continue to fall on deaf ears.

Sources from District Land Revenue & Settlement Office informed that about 841 plots have been allotted to individual residents and other purposes in Gumin Nagar area. There is a plot measuring 4.9 acres (20 thousand sq. metres) earmarked for Children Park, wherein encroachment by the unscrupulous section has been reported.

The DLRSO reportedly submitted ground report on encroachment of government land at Gumin Nagar to Estate Officer for necessary action, but no action has been taken so far under the reason best known to him only.

3rd district level Dorjee Khandu Memorial Badminton Championship begins

TAWANG, Aug 6: The 3rd district-level Dorjee Khandu memorial badminton championship organized by Jang Sports Club (JSC) began at Jang indoor stadium here, on Saturday.

Shuttlers from various circles of Tawang are taking part in the championship in different categories.

In his inaugural speech, Tawang DC, Sang Phuntso called upon the players to make best use of the tournament to showcase their inherent talents while maintaining the spirit of sportsmanship.

Mukto Anchal Samiti Chairperson, Namgey Tsering lauded the efforts of JSC for providing a platform for the shuttlers of the district. ‘Such events will help in honing the techniques of the budding shuttlers and enhance their game’, he said while appealing for greater participation in the sports.

Jang ADC, Dr. Dilip. Kumar Chutiya, JSC, General Secretary, Dr. Rinchin Nima and Circle Inspector, Kesang Norbu also spoke on the occasion.

Two young shutters, Choeden and Ten Phuntso were also felicitated by the JSC for their brilliant performance in the recently culminated junior level national badminton tournament held in Delhi and Guwahati.

Over 700 shuttlers to participate in 4th DK Memorial Open Badminton C’ship

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: Over 700 shuttlers from all over the state are expected to participate in the 4th Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Level Open Badminton Championship scheduled to be held from August 10- to 13 in Itanagar.

The championship will consist of both men and women open singles, doubles and mixed doubles, boys and girls U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19 Singles & Doubles. Mixed Double event will also be held for players U-19 year category, said Arunachal State Badminton Association Secretary Bamang Tago.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein will attend the opening ceremony at Raj Bhawan Badminton Stadium here on August 10 at 10-30 am while the closing ceremony will be attended by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who also is the Chief Patron of the championship, informed Tago.

Big wins for Gidi Yameng and Banggo United in Solung football

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: Gidi Yameng FC and Banggo United FC registered big wins in the Itanagar Solung Football Tournament being held at APPBn Ground on Saturday.

In lopsided matches, Gidi Yameng FC trounced Ani Abing FC 7-0 while Banggo United FC thrashed Delong Yameng FC 11-0.

Tomi Panggin (2 goal), Franklin Taki (4 goal) and Dungna Nonang (1 goal) were the scorers for Giidi Yameng FC.

Franklin Taki was declared as player of the match.

Banggo United FC’s Kaling Tatin netted 4 goals including the first, second, third and seventh in the match against Delong Yameng FC. He netted the opening goal in just 5 minutes. Takar Ragyor scored 3 goals while Toni Lego, Kinam Pertin,Tom Lomtung and Bakin Tamuk scored one goal each for their team Banggo United FC.

Takar Ragyor of Banggo United FC was adjudged the Players of the match.

Yellow card was shown to Kason Gao of Delong Yameng FC.

Earlier in the morning, Golgi Bote FC beat Barbi FC by 3-1 goals.

The scorers were Geyon Tayeng (1) and Talbong Pertin (2).

The lone goal for Barbi FC was scored by Nelson Rinya.

Kidong Gamoh of Golgi Bote FC was adjudged as player of the match.

Doying Gollong FC will play against Naharlagun Solung FC at 2.30 pm on Sunday while Banggo United FC will take on RGUFC at 3.30 pm.

OIL pays royalty to Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: Oil India Limited, Duliajan, Assam has made payment to the Arunachal Pradesh Government towards Differential Royalty on Oil for the period from February 2014 to March 2016.

General Manager of Oil India Limited AK Acharya handed over the cheque amounting to Rs 2.49 Crore to Chief Minister Pema Khandu at his office chamber here on Saturday.

The OIL General Manager briefed the Chief Minister regarding the pending issues of Ningru Oil Field and requested him to expedite the Petroleum Mining Lease. He also apprised the Chief Minister about the yet to be signed MoU of 10 MW Gas Power Plant.

Pema assured to fast track the pending issues with the Oil India Limited and further asked them to take up more activities in the state as it has abundant mineral oil resources which need to be taped properly.

Acharya was accompanied by R K Borah, Chief Engineer and A K Gogoi, Executive Director of Oil India Limited, Duliajan (Assam).

Legal awareness camp at Oju Mission

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: Arunachal Pradesh Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) organized a one-day free legal awareness camp at Oju Mission, Naharlagun on Saturday to create awareness among the poor and needy people about their rights and duties.

Besides on-the-spot counseling pamphlets containing information on legal rights were distributed among the people present on the occasion.

APSLSA team headed by Member Secretary Budi Habung also participated in a voluntary blood donation camp organized by WHL and Arunachal Vivekananda Yuva Shakti at Oju Mission.

Lower Subansiri bandh on Aug 11

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: The All Lower Subansiri District Students' Union (ALSDSU) has proposed for a 12 hours Lower Subansiri bandh call on August 11 next.

It has been demanding immediate maintenance of road stretch from Potin to Bopi, execution of Trans-Arunachal Highway (TAH) under Lower Subansiri district and action against government land encroachers in the district.

Villagers cleans Ganga lake area

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: More than 100 villagers from 1-Batt gram segment and Lower Puttung participated in a social service drive in Ganga lake area on Saturday. Done under the leadership of GPM Kara Topu, the villagers cleaned many places of the tourist spot.

The GPM appealed to the GoAP to pay attention to the pathetic condition of Ganga lake.

IMGA Quiz competition conducted

DAPORIJO, Aug 6: Iman Memorial Girls Academy (IMGA), Daporijo on Saturday conducted an inter-school Quiz competition for class VI to VIII students of various schools of Daporijo township to commemorate the 21st birth anniversary of Iman Rigia, daughter of Mrs and Mr Nyai Rigia.

VKV, Kuporijo bagged the first position, while the host IMGA and Vivekananda Public school, Daporijo won the second and third position respectively. Altogether seven schools from the township participated in the competition.

Speaking on the occasion, DIET Principal in-charge Bijoy Murtem said that such type of co-curricular activities should be conducted in all the schools so that the students get ample opportunities to develop and show their hidden talents.

Awareness on health and nutrition imparted

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: Awareness on health and nutrition were imparted to AWWs, AWHs, pregnant and lactating mothers, adolescent girls and PRI members during two separate programmes conducted by the ICDS Project, Balijan at Sangdupota and Balijan to mark the World Breastfeeding Week celebrations, which began on Aug 1 last.

During the programme themed, ‘Breastfeeding: A Key to Sustainable Development’, issues like advantages of breastfeeding, role of Anganwadi Workers, educating the women folk of their respective Anganwadi Centre for promotion of breastfeeding etc. were highlighted.

Basarnalo MO, Dr. J Kamta Veo and Balijan CHC MO, Dr. Tao Mala were the resource persons of the programme.

At Sangdupota, CDPO incharge, SC Tok, while outlining the objectives of celebration of breastfeeding week, urged the AWW & AWHs to perform their assigned responsibilities with sincerity to ensure proper implementation of various welfare schemes of the department meant for women and children.

Attending the programme at Balijan, ADC, Chuka Takar urged the AWWs/AWHs and mothers to put into practice the knowledge they gained during the programme to ensure better health of child and mother.

A coordination meeting of AWWs/AWHs and PRI members was also conducted at Sangdupota and Balijan respectively, wherein the functions and performance of AWCs and AWWs were discussed.

Inculcate work culture: Kundra advises officials

AALO, Aug 6: The Commissioner of Finance and Power, Asish Kundra has exhorted all government officers to inculcate work culture to bring in visible developments in the state.

Kundra said this in a meeting at Siang Sadan on Friday, after he along with Chief Engineer Hydro Power, J Kamdak, West Siang DC, Pige Ligu, SE Power Transmission, Rokom Bado, Aalo Circle, SE, Gyati Tada and others visited Aalo Power House, 133KV Power Grid Sub-Station Yeggo from where electricity supply to East Siang, Siang and Upper Siang are being fed. He also visited Kamba Power House, Siru Tali Hydel Project and Paya Bridge Point.

The West Siang DC, Pige Ligu also said that regular visits to districts will help the government understand the problems and issues of the people and redress it at the earliest. (DIPRO)

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: August Kranti Diwas will be observed in the State Capital here on August nine as Jan Kranti Diwas by various students and human rights organizations, women welfare society demanding Centre to repeal Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA).

The North East Student Organization (NESO), All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union, Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS), Nefa Indigenous Human Right Organization (NIHRO), Global Human Right Organization (GHRO), Arunachal Intellectual Forum (AIF) and Arunachal Citizen’s Right (ACR) are jointly celebrating the day as Jan Kranti Diwas in the Capital City of Arunachal Pradesh with the slogan Government of India Quit AFSPA.

The participants will gather at Nyokum Lapang General Ground 900 hrs and then peace march from Nyokum Lapang General Ground to Tennis Court (1 km walk) followed by Mass fasting.

The celebration this year becomes more important as human rights activists Irom Sharmila, who has been on a fast for 16 years demanding the repeal AFSPA, will break her fast on August 9. Kranti Diwas is a day observed to remember the historic 'Quit India Movement' initiated by Gandhi and Indian National Congress.

Blood donation camp held

ITANAGAR, Aug 6: The Arunachal Women Helpline (WHL) and Arunachal Vivekananda Yuva Shakti (AVYS) in association with Tomo Riba State Hospital under the agies of Arunachal Pradesh State Aids Control Society, Naharlagun organized a one day ‘Voluntary Blood Donation Camp’ to commemorate Independence Day in the premises of Oju Welfare Association (OWA) on Saturday.

The programme was aimed at promoting WHL to the people of the state, especially to women folks. It is a toll-free 24 hours telecom service for women affected by violence seeking support and information.

Donors from all over the twin city participated in the blood donation camp including officials and Jawans of ITBP and PTC, Members of Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Service Authority (APSLSA), Staffs from Jan Shakti Sansthan (JSS) and State Resource Centre (SRC), Employees of Oju Mission School, WHL staff and students from NIT.

Commanding Officer (CO) of ITBP PN Prasad while encouraging the blood donors said, ‘life is a boon and to save it we have an opportunity by donating blood to people in need. We cannot make blood but we can donate.’

Highlighting the objective of the blood donation camp, WHL Manager said, ‘Arunachal WHL receives cases from all over the state and often the victims are in need of medical attention such as clinical check up, medicines, operation and in certain cases the victim is in need of blood, where WHL is left out with no one to turn to. In consideration of such critical situation and also with an intention to mitigate the blood deficit in the State Blood Banks, WHL along with AVYS organised the voluntary blood donation camp.’
